Hi friends. I think we can all agree it’s been a weird week, yeah? I just got home from a trip across the country for a live Mastermind Retreat that had been planned for months. When we left for this trip, the general sense of this whole Covid19 scare was serious, but not quite as alarming. Had our trip been scheduled even just a couple days later, it definitely would have been cancelled, as each passing day seemed to meet us with new and heightened measures being taken by our federal and local governments. As it happened though, the timing was different and we DID meet up, so we all did our best to hunker down and not panic. While it was absolutely life giving for my soul, my business, and my creative life to meet with these women and brainstorm, problem solve, and dream big, it was also a very strange feeling to be so far away from my family. My generally low grade anxiety has definitely kicked up about 5 (read:50) notches this week, and if yours has too, I just want to say: You’re not alone, you’re not a weirdo, and we’re all in this together. Let’s be gentle with ourselves and others as we navigate our turbulent thoughts and feelings right now. One thing I find that helps me when I catch myself spiraling into negative or fearful thought cycles is to take on a posture of curiosity, rather than judgement. Take a moment to ask yourself exactly what you’re afraid of or worried about. This might not even be directly COVID19 related. Sometimes simply NAMING the thing (or allllll the things) helps lesson the weight of it. Personally, I love to do this in a journal. I just free-write whatever stream of consciousness comes out onto the page and then I don’t judge myself for any of it. For whatever reason, getting it all out of my head and onto the page is theraputic. A few other things that are helping me right now are puppy snuggles, long walks without my phone, mostly staying offline, and reading light/funny fiction books because I cannot handle anything serious right now. If you’re looking for a little levity to help take your mind off everything for a bit, below are a couple of oldie-but-goodie blog posts! This is also a great time to go catch up on the podcast! Y’all know Alana & I can’t stay serious for too long. We are fun-havers and the podcast is often a reflection of that. Recently we’ve been exploring the themes of Comparison, Friendship in Adulthood, and sharing some fun behind-the-scenes info on Masterminds, like, what it is, different ways it can look, and introducing you to the women in our own.
