If you’ve been reading here for any length of time then you’re probably already familiar with Let’s Play Oprah. It’s a fun little game we play once a month in which I share my top 3 “Favorite Things” at the moment, ask you what YOUR favorite things are (because that’s what friends do- they dish on the goods!), and then at the end of the month I do a Facebook Live video to draw a winner and I give away one of the items on the list! (Be sure to tune in on Wednesday, January 31st at 12:30 pm PST)
If you’re interested in this month’s giveaway and you’re wondering how you can be entered to win, it’s actually super simple. You just have to be subscribed to the blog. There’s a blue button at the end of this post- click it, enter your email, and voila! You’re entered to win.
Forever.
No rabbit trails or steps to take each month, it’s a one and done kind of a thing because I like to keep it simple. The only way your name ever comes out of the drawing is if you unsubscribe. Which I’ll admit would make me very sad, but I’d understand. Our email inboxes are sacred ground and sometimes we have to be picky about the voices we allow to fill them up.
Which is why I try to filter every single email I send through the filter of “is this serving YOU?”
I don’t want to be another voice banging around inside your head unless I’m offering you something funny, something helpful, a bit of encouragement and honesty, or in this case, some goodies you should know about.
I can’t believe I just said goodies.
I do Let’s Play Oprah mostly because it’s fun but also as a way to say Thank You to the people who have invited me into their inbox. It’s a big deal. I get that. I’m honored. So here! Have a lipstick (or bullet journal, or Schitt’s Creek dvd, or a book, or whatever else I happen to be obsessed with at the moment.)
Am I buying your love? No.
Am I throwing treats around like confetti at a parade so we can all feel more festive? Hells yes.
SO.
Without further ado, here are my Top 3 Favorite Things this January:
A friend clued me in to this awesome subscription earlier this year and as a result our family took two trips that never wouldn’t happened otherwise. I love to travel and would spend literally all my dollars on it, but my husband is more of a homebody and prefers to be tinkering in his shop on our property or looking after our ever growing herd of animals. So it takes a pretty enticing deal to lure him onto an airplane.
Scotts Cheap Flights is a free subscription- all you have to do is go to his website and enter your email and he’ll start sending you the craziest deals on airfare all around the world. He’s not a broker so you don’t actually buy the tickets through him, he just tracks the info and points you in the direction of the best deals.
I’ve seen roundtrip flights to Paris for 300 bucks, I’ve seen flights in the US for as low as 50 bucks, and I’ve seen accidental fares to New Zealand that were so low it’d make your head spin. The only catch is, once the email goes out, the good deals become public knowledge and while some fares will last for weeks, other times they’ll be sold out within hours.
It’s the perfect tool if you’re a traveller at heart who’s always up for an adventure, OR if you already have a specific destination in mind- you can just wait for it to pop up and then pounce on those sweet prices. That’s what we did, and our whole family was able to go to Maui for 17 days, over a holiday no less, for literally less than a THIRD of the normal price.
It was bananas. I’m obsessed. Are you obsessed yet? Because you should be.
Get on this.
2. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon TV
This show kept popping up as a recommendation and I kept on ignoring it because I had no clue what it was about, but I got really sick a few weeks ago and wound up stuck in bed and I will tell you that I fell into a very deep Mrs. Maisel rabbit hole. And I wasn’t mad about. Not even 1%.
This show was such a surprise and a complete and total delight.
It’s set in the late 50’s, so there’s a sharp quality of nostalgia that draws you in. The clothes! The sets! The cars! The cafes! The nightclubs! They’re all a visually stunning backdrop but make no mistake, it’s the quick-witted, fast paced dialogue and the endearing, quirky characters that will make you fall in love with this show.
I don’t want to spoil too much, but it’s about Miriam (Midge), a smart, funny, sophisticated housewife who by “some turn of events” finds herself onstage, accidentally doing stand up comedy and killing it.
It won two Oscars and I’m not one bit surprised. FYI, it’s not necessarily family friendly for young kids, but overall it was such a feel good show. You don’t want to miss this one.
As you can see, we’re all over the map with our Favorite Things this month, but what can I say, I’m a real Renaissance gal.🤷🏼♀️
It seems that most of the free world already knows I have a deep and unshakeable love for Taco Bell. I’ve even written a whole post about How To Order Taco Bell, because there is a right and a wrong way to be going about it. (Ask me how I know.) And by the way, that was one of my most popular posts ever, so obviously I’m not the only one with a dirty little Taco Bell secret. Just saying.
And yes, okay, FINE- I do have a stash of mild sauce in the glove compartment of my car, and a whole drawer dedicated to them in my kitchen, but IT’S NOT WIERD, GUYS.
At least let me believe it isn’t.
I get tagged in posts and videos and memes about Taco Bell almost daily, and I have no problem being the Taco Bell poster girl, but what people don’t know, is that I actually prefer Chipotle much more than Taco Bell.
So much more.
If I had to choose between 50 Chipotle burritos or 1 Thousand TB burritos (over the course of my life, I mean. Not in one sitting obviously) I’d choose Chipotle. And if you know how much I love burritos, you’ll understand the gravity of those numbers.
It’s just so good.
The closest one to us is 30 miles away and I make up all kinds of excuses to drive to the next town over each week. Like that I “need” to go to Costco or Target or Trader Joe’s (because no, our little town has none of these fine establishments. Pray for us.) But we all know it’s just a thinly veiled excuse to go to Chipotle.
It is the single, solitary restaurant that I’ll go to alone. That’s how much I love it.
And since I love it so very much, I’m giving away a Chipotle gift card this month to one lucky subscriber. Make sure you’re entered to win! *this is where you imagine a celebratory parade of trumpets, confetti, and a small marching band*
So that’s it folks, those are my Favorite Things this month!
What are yours?
Hit me up in the comments and tell me what you’re loving right now- it can be anything: Books, music, food, drinks, habits, clothes, products, tv, podcasts…
I’m all ears.
Literally. They’re very big.
Beth says
I’ve got that show queued up next for when we get through Grey’s (I think we are in Season 9) and I. CAN NOT. WAIT.
The things I am loving right now are temps above 0 degrees (because hello winter, what the heck?!), Field & Stream Cozy Cabin socks from Dick’s Sporting Goods (buy 1 get one free, so 2 for $12.99 and they are so soft and warm), and anything preceded by the words warm or hot (blanket, tea, clothing, shower, etc).
Also, if you pull my name, toss it back in because we don’t have a Chipotle anywhere within 1.5 hours of driving. Let someone else enjoy that goodness.
